K1 Garratt live again!
Entrambe le locomotive alla fine caddero in disuso, ma non sono state demolite in quel momento. Invece, grazie alla loro unica meccanica, sono state apprezzate e così la K1 (con la caldaia della K2 e poche altre parti) è stata offerta al Bayer Peacocks per la conservazione.
Alla chiusura della Beyer Peacocks, la locomotiva è stata acquisita dalla Ferrovia Ffestiniog e successivamente messa in mostra al National Railway Museum di York. Con la prospettiva della riapertura della ferrovia Welsh Highland Railway, diventò più probabile una opportunità per ripristinare e utilizzare la locomotiva quando quella linea fu aperta.
Il gruppo K1 è stato istituito con l'intento di essere responsabile per il suo restauro e mantenere lo stato di funzionamento.
Questo è stato avviato a Tyseley vicino a Birmingham, e più tardi si trasferì a Boston Lodge sulla Ferrovia Ffestiniog, prima di arrivare finalmente alla WHR nel 2004.
Both locomotives eventually fell out of use but neither were scrapped at that time. Instead their unique nature was appreciated and so K1 (with K2's boiler and a few other parts) was offered to Bayer Peacocks for preservation.
On the closure of Beyer Peacocks the Loco was acquired by the Ffestiniog Railway and subsequently put on display at the National Railway Museum in York. With the prospect of the reopening of the Welsh Highland Railway becoming more likely an opportunity was seen to restore and use the loco when that line opened.
The K1 group was set up with the intention of being responsible for its restoration to working order.
This was started at Tyseley near Birmingham, and later moved to Boston Lodge on the Ffestiniog Railway before finally arriving at the WHR in 2004.
